A service for ex-military personnel
At Wellingborough Trauma Centre
This Trauma Centre was set up to develop the use of a relatively new therapy, Neuro Muscular Transmission, in the treatment of post-traumatic stress. Over a period of six years, the effectiveness of the treatment has been demonstrated through regular use with 300 people, principally referred from Victim Support. Over 90% of people coming for three or more treatments report significant benefit. Many say that it has given them their lives back.
Neuro-Muscular Transmission (NMT) involves gentle touch activating the mind-body’s communication system enabling the release of disturbing emotions without the person re-experiencing the trauma. This is not a form of massage: the person remains fully clothed throughout. Normally people feel quite relaxed during the treatment and calmer afterwards.
NMT works in two stages:
- The processing or release of blocked emotions on a subconscious level, thus avoiding retraumatisation
- The reprogramming of thought processes enabling the person to function normally.
Other proven effective remedies are integrated into the treatment as needed, including EMDR, Rewind and EFT. This makes for an unparalleled range of expertise that enables faster and more thorough recovery and a much easier experience for the person undergoing the treatment.
A free initial consultation provides the opportunity for anyone using the service to meet the therapist, find out in more detail about what is being offered, explain how the trauma is currently affecting their lives and decide whether and on what basis they want to go ahead with the treatment.
This service is self-funding. To cover costs the standard charge for treatment is £35 per one-hour session. Concessions are available for those in difficult circumstances. The number of sessions required is variable with the number and severity of issues to deal with, but with this treatment progress is normally made quite rapidly. Single incident traumas can be resolved in one or two sessions.
The Wellingborough Trauma Centre is based at Callistherapy, 18 Oxford Street, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, NN8 4HY.
