Stress and Emotional Problems

Physical Conditions

Contrary to occasional partisan scare-mongering, alternative remedies and therapies are generally very safe to use. One type of remedy that has caused a small number of serious problems has been the long-term use of some Chinese remedies not prescribed by a doctor of Chinese medicine.

First Aid

Also, contrary to propaganda, experience shows the use of homeopathic remedies for first aid can be very effective; e.g. arsenicum for sickness, arnica for bruising, aconite for shock, apis for stings etc. Try them for yourself. You need to drop them directly into a clean mouth and leave them there; do not put anything else in for 15 minutes. The use of thuja for veruccas has been effective after one month. Do not use homeopathic remedies continuously for more than a month without taking a break.

Although research shows aromatherapy massage to be no more effective than ordinary massage, specific use of essential oils can be very effective in helping with many conditions. Some oils can be used neat on the skin but will sting if you get any in the eye, others sting painfully, in which case it's best to dilute straight away with ordinary vegetable oil. Most people can use neat lavender for burns, bites, cuts etc. A lavender based cream can be soothing for sunburn. Laurel can be helpful for toothache. Gentle stretching exercises, as taught in yoga and tai chi, help to clear blockages and get your energy flowing freely. For example, stretching the meridians on the inside of the legs helps with indigestion and catarrh on the chest. Pulling back the shoulders opens up the lung meridian; pummelling the upper chest as in the Japanese do-in, also helps to free up congestion in the chest. Sticking out the tongue, as in the yoga pose, the cat, is helpful for throat infections (as is the application of rescue remedy; or sandalwood essential oil in honey).

You can also use hand reflexology to give yourself a treatment. Simply apply a pulsating, on/off, pressure with the thumb to sensitive spots that reflect problems elsewhere in the body, e.g. the bone on the outside of the thumb joint for the spine, the lower part of the fingers for teeth, the palms for digestion, the upper palms for the lungs; all on the relevant side of the body.

The first step on a physical level in preventing or combating any illness is a serious common sense approach to healthy living embracing good nutrition, appropriate exercise and rest and reducing the intake of any toxins.
