Dr Bach's remedies for emotional states and personality traits
Rescue Remedy™ is the best known Bach Flower Remedy. Many people carry it around with them in case of emergencies. That is what it was designed for. But people use it for any stressful situation, to calm themselves down.
Like all the Bach remedies it is entirely safe to use because it is very dilute and does not work in a chemical way at all. That’s why there are no side effects, it’s not addictive and you can use it along with any medication. Nor do you need to digest it. You simply put a few drops in the mouth for it to work, just as you do with homeopathic remedies.
So how does it work? The energy pattern of the flowers is stored in the remedy. This has a signal which resonates with the positive qualities in you that you need to strengthen. So the effect is simply to help you to get back to being yourself. This is what people say when they’ve been taking them a little while. “I feel more myself.”
Rescue Remedy is mixture of five remedies:
- Star of Bethlehem - for shock, hurt, upset, grief
- Rock Rose - for panic, terror
- Cherry Plum - for the fear of losing it, going crazy, losing control
- Impatiens - for the mind racing
- Clematis - for loss of consciousness, floating, drifting off
There are in fact 38 remedies for all sorts of moods, emotions, states of mind, aspects of personality. There are five different remedies for different kinds of fear. There are remedies for various forms of doubt and uncertainty, despondency and despair, loneliness, loss of interest in the world around you, being over-sensitive to or over involved with other people.
You can make up a treatment bottle for yourself by putting a couple of drops of up to half a dozen remedies into a 30ml dropper bottle, adding water and taking it regularly, at least four times a day. You can take it twenty times a day if you feel the need.
In a couple of studies by Charles Callis of people attending for counselling at GP surgeries, three quarters of people felt they had a significant benefit from using the remedies and half felt they had benefited very much.
You can get the Bach remedies from health food stores, main Boots stores and some other chemists. You can also get Rescue Cream which you apply to any area of the skin that feels under attack: it’ll soothe it and calm it down.
